Supercar deposit in Dubai: what's normal, when it comes back, the 7 traps

How it really works
The deposit is almost always a pre-authorization on your credit card (not a charge): the bank blocks the amount and releases it after return. Normal timing: 7–21 working days — needed to cover late-arriving Salik tolls and fines. Normal figures: AED 3,000–5,000 on mid supercars, up to 15,000 on G63 and top models; some serious operators run zero deposit on Cullinan and GT models.
The 7 red flags (run if you see one)
1) Price far below market ("Huracán for AED 999"). 2) Deposit demanded in cash or crypto. 3) No written contract. 4) No photos/video of the car's condition at handover. 5) Site with no UAE TRN (VAT number). 6) "Deposit released in 45 days" with no reason. 7) Communication only on throwaway Telegram. Is the deposit charged to my card?
No, normally it's a pre-authorization: the amount is blocked, not charged. If someone actually charges it and wants cash for the rest, that's a red flag.
What if I get a fine?
The operator deducts the fine plus any admin fee from the deposit and sends you the receipt. Always ask for the official receipt.
Can I leave a cash deposit?
Not recommended: with a card you have bank protection. Anyone insisting on cash should be avoided.
